Personal Care Guidelines

Friendship circle works with children and vulnerable people with a range of disability. These young people often require physical assistance when it comes to toileting.

No volunteer is expected to help with toileting in anyway if they are uncomfortable. However when taking a child to the toilet; changing their continence aid or helping them with personal care, the following guidelines need to be followed:

  • The appropriate manual handling training needs to have been completed.
  • You need to be with at least one other volunteer or staff member.
  • You need to document at what time, the child was taken to the toilet/continence aid was changed.
